Bethesda, MD
Yearly Show: Needlework Emporium -- check to see upcoming dates
(Women's Club of Bethesda, 5500 Sonoma Rd. Bethesda, MD 20817)
https://www.facebook.com/needleworkemporium/
-
Overall rating: 10/10
-
Prices: Reasonable
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: Mostly vintage with some handicraft mixed in. No crap.
-
Notes: Love attending this small show every year. Quality vendors focusing on the needle arts with antiques, supplies, and handcrafted items. I am not a crafter (let alone skilled in needlework), but there are lots of vintage bits to be found - ribbon, lace, trim, millinery... and even random vintage items like chenille birds, tins, French boudoir boxes, and vintage wallpaper. I always walk out with fabulous finds. Worth stopping by if you are in the area! The show is small, though, so don't expect to spend more than an hour there. Downtown Bethesda is full of shops and restaurants to hit up afterwards. I'd recommend going to Kensington after if you're in an antiquing-mood.

Kensington, MD
Kensington Antique Row has numerous antique shops. Ranging from primitive to MCM, fancy French to crap. You can definitely spend a few hours here, and there are some cute little restaurants (from a different era!) mixed in. I wouldn't plan a trip around it, but if you are in the DMV, it's one of the best places (only) to look for vintage in MD. There are other shops not listed here - you'll pass by them, they just aren't my favorite.

Prevention of Blindness Society Resale Shop
(3716 Howard Ave, Kensington, MD 20895) - not open everyday, so check beforehand.
-
Honestly one of the only true charity shops in the area. Prices have been raised since they changed management. More antique-store-prices instead of thrift prices. You used to be able to get vintage glassware for a dollar... now $5 a piece. Probably depends on inventory. If you're in the area to antique, worth going in.
-
It's a charity shop, so not exclusively vintage-oriented to begin with.
-
Also a great place to donate to if you're local.
-

Georgina’s G&G Antiques
(3776 Howard Ave, Kensington, MD 20895)
-
Overall rating: 10/10!
-
Prices: Very good. For resale and personal collections
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: All vintage
-
LOVE THIS PLACE. I always find the most random things. There are two levels, but the stairs leading down to the basement may be concealed by fur coats. Push passed them and go downstairs! Glassware in the very back, vintage clothes/hats in the corner, and other fun oddities all around. Run by a very nice woman who usually gives discounts, unprompted. Prices are already great to begin with.

Kensington Antique Row
(3762B Howard Ave, Kensington, MD 20895) - a couple different entrances
https://www.kensingtonantiquerow.com/
-
Prices: Mix (each dealer is different)
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: mix.
-
Notes: This place is wonky, primarily because it's from another era. Artist studios mixed in, but plenty of vintage dealers. It's a main attraction for Kensington, so it's worth stopping in. I've rarely found a "good deal" on items, but plenty to look at. Mostly smalls, but furniture too.

-
Overall rating: 9/10 (for more expensive antiques)
-
Prices: high compared to the rest of the shops on this list, but reasonable for the antiques they sell. Certainly not getting ripped off.
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: all antiques, no crap.
-
Notes: This is one of the only "pricer" shops on my list. But I love it. Great tole chandeliers, beautiful antique furniture and victorian paintings. Worth a stop in since they sometimes have sales. Prices aren't insane, just not a good place for resale/bargain-hunters.
Jill & Co Country Antiques
(3744 Howard Ave, Kensington, MD 20895)

-
Overall rating:
-
Prices: mixed, but leans to the pricier side.
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: all vintage, no crap.
-
Notes: Mix of smalls and furniture. Lots of Americana and primitive, but other things too. Worth stopping in since it's a multi-room store.

-
Prices: reasonable to higher end.
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: All vintage
-
Notes: Been going here since I was a little girl. More than 150 dealers, 20,000 square feet. Mix of smalls and furniture. I usually find a few things. Not great for resale purposes. Historic Savage Mill is a fun place - could spend half a day there.

Ellicott City, MD
Ellicott City has suffered some major, devastating floods over the last decade and many vintage shops closed. Used to be a destination. Now, there are only a couple left. But the area is super cute - great shops and restaurants - so it is still a destination worth visiting!

Antique Depot
3720 Maryland Avenue,
Ellicott City, MD 21043
-
Overall rating: 9/10
-
Prices: Mixed. Mostly fair.
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: Mostly vintage. Some repro mixed it on upper level

Fun stuff - mostly collectibles of every genre. You can skip the beer museum portion. The first floor is all antique mall.
-

JoRetro Inc (@joretro)
137 N Washington Street

This place is WILD! Designed like a mini retro department store - everything is categorized by theme. Mix of vintage and retro reproduction. No crap, just super fun!
-
Good for the pyrex-lover
-
If you're staying in the area, you can book one of their apartments located over the shop. Each is inspired by Vintage Pyrex and Mid-century design.

Frederick, MD
Old Glory Antique Market

Frederick, MD 21704
Website: http://oldgloryantiques.com
-
A real favorite of mine. 100+ dealers with a range of items. Mostly smalls, but furniture, too. China, novelty, holiday, etc. All the good stuff.
-
Prices can really vary by booth. I've scored some GREAT deals here. But some booths are pricier.
-
Right outside of downtown Frederick (not walking distance)
-
Notoriously slow at check-out, so give yourself extra time :)
-
See video tour here.
Emporium Antiques (@emporiumantiques)
112 E Patrick Street
Frederick, Maryland
-
Been coming here for 25 years (literally). Large and in downtown Frederick.
-
Primarily higher-end... think artwork, antique furniture, statement pieces for a home. BUT also has a bunch of smalls (especially towards back of the building) - china, home decor, etc. I always find at least something.
-
Not necessarily for the bargain hunter, but always has interesting things. Worth going in!
-
See video tour here.

**Cannon Hill Place Antiques closed at time of writing - they suffered a devastating fire in Feb 2024!

This place is brimming with crap - yard sale junk, scarecrows from Hobby Lobby, cleaning products, yarn, etc.... BUT, I wouldn't keep going back if there weren't goodies to find!
-
Very cheap. Vintage tins, some Christmas, and china/glassware is what this place is good for. Pretty large, but most of it can be passed over with a quick glance.
-
Not a destination.

Annapolis, MD
Evergreen Antiques and True Vintage (@evergreen_antiques)
(69 Maryland Avenue, Annapolis, MD)
https://shopevergreenantiques.com/
-
Prices: on the pricier side, but fair.
-
Vintage-to-crap ratio: all vintage. Love that the shop has "true vintage" in the name!
-
Notes: Not a huge place, but worth stopping in. I've scored some great things over the years (vintage ceramic umbrella stand, pink rhinestone necklace, vintage dress, paintings, etc.). Some fine antiques (furniture, china, and linens), as well. Pricier, but beautiful. It's changed ownership over the years. Used to have a basement, but it's been closed for years. Very nice owners.
Antiques at Annapolis (@antiques.at.annapolis)
